Now are you ready to see my spin on vintage?

You sure?  It isn't what you would expect!  Because of all the Texas themed stamps available from Paper Wings Productions I went a little honky tonk and used the same format as last month with a tag art canvas.

The background began innocently enough.  I started much like I did for my sea inspired piece from last month with some stamping, distressing of the edges and drips of mist.  Then I keep on adding distressing, images, color and a little bit of patterned paper.  Somehow it looked too dark so I added globs of gesso in a haphazard way with a strip of cardstock as an applicator.   Mist started to spread, I used a heat embossing gun to do some quick drying and added more gesso.  Then I scraped off gesso.  I added more stamping, ink, patterned paper stars and the like.  For the background I used Texas State or Deep in the Heart of Texas, Hanging Stars, Lone Star and Writing Backgrounds or Writing stamps.  I also added a border using a gold leafing pen.

Tag No. 1

On a coffee stained tag I stamped the Texas from Texas State or Small Texas State using red and pink Distress Inks.  To add interest I stamped the Texas cancelation seal from Texas State or Deep in the Heart of Texas and the Alamo from Texas Melange or Remember the Alamo in grey ink and the writing from Writing Backgrounds or Writing in brown ink.  I tied a strip of brown burlap to the tag.

Tag No. 2

On a coffee stained tag I stamped the sentiment from Texas Sayings using brown ink.  To add interest in grey ink I stamped the star from Texas Melange or behind the sentiment, the Alamo from Texas Melange or Remember the Alamo also in grey ink and Texas cancelation seal from Texas State or Deep in the Heart of Texas and the writing from Writing Backgrounds or Writing in brown ink.  I tied a strip of brown burlap to the tag.

Tag No. 3

On a coffee stained tag I stamped the boots from Lyrics or Walking using blue Distress Inks.  Over the boots I stamped the Texas cancelation seal from Texas State or Deep in the Heart of Texas in dark blue.  To add interest in grey ink I stamped the Alamo from Texas Melange or Remember the Alamo and the writing from Writing Backgrounds or Writing in brown ink.  I tied a strip of brown burlap to the tag.

Behind the middle tag I added a nest of gold thread.  And there you have it!

Are you ready to see what I have in store for you by the sea?

It just so happens that I am in a nautical mood and luckily Paper Wings Productions has just the stamps I need to make a nautical inspired canvas panel.

I began the canvas by stamping the waves from Mermaid on the bottom right hand side of the canvas with grey ink.  Then I over stamped the postcard in blue ink from Writing Backgrounds or Postcard.  I also stamped the postcard on the top left of the canvas.  The last bit of stamping on the canvas was to add several shells and starfish from Sea Melange or Sea.  Lastly, I added some drops of mist and distressed the edges with Distress Ink.

The finished background:

Left tag:

I stamped the starfish from Sea Melange or Sea in grey on to a coffee stained tag.  The quote from Sea Melange or Seaside was stamped in blue ink.

Center tag:

The lighthouse from Sea Melange or Seaside was stamped in navy on a coffee stained tag.  I added some depth to the image by using a Copic marker.   In blue ink I stamped the cancellation seal from Text Melange or Text on the bottom right.  I stamped part of the handwriting from Writing Backgrounds or Writing in grey over the seal and on the top left of the tag.

Right tag:

I stamped the ship scene from Sea Melange or Sea in blue on a coffee stained tag.  I stamped just the waves a few more times to fill in the bottom of the tag which turned out perfect!  I stamped the clouds from Earth & Sky Melange or Cloudy several times on the top of the tag in blue ink to finish off my scene.

And here is another look at the this seaworthy canvas:

I think this little baby is going to my papa as he also loves the nautical look.  I love when something I make can be given as a gift.  Win-win.

By the way if you want to see a couple of other by the sea projects I've made in the past for Paper Wings Productions click HERE (mermaid) and HERE (boat).  Make sure to also visit The Aviary for lots of other fabulous by the sea inspiration and much, much more!

That's it from me for now.  Make sure to head on over to finish up the hop at The Aviary.

Trio of Tags

Dear Reader,

Back in June I used stamps by paper wings productions to create some fun and pretty quick tags.  I wanted to share a trio I made with just a few supplies like Memento Ink, Distress Ink, water, Prisma colored pencils, perfect pearls and paper wings productions stamps.

Any of the Papier Family stamp sets work amazingly well with the London and Paris stamp sets.  It is incredibly fun to create scenes with these stamp sets together.

And for those wanting to celebrate the Olympic games you can't beat the London stamp set!

Enjoy the opening ceremony of the Olympic games today and thanks for taking the time to visit,

Shay.

The paper wings productions stamps used: Double Dot Border, London, Marcel, Paris, Sophie, Text Melange, Triangle Border and Writing Backgrounds.
