Winnie & Walter: The Daily Grind Collection Vol. 1

Hello!  Long time no blogging.  I have a very good reason....

It's official!  Winnie & Walter is live and we have a collection on sale, newsletter freebie + coupon, Facebook Freebie and also a giveaway of the entire collection on the Winnie & Walter blog.  Don't miss out if you love digital or hybrid crafting!

I love how versatile our The Daily Grind Collection Vol. 1 is...believe it or not we designed it to be that way!  For the little moments or those special occasions, this collection has it all.  Plus it works with what you already have at home or on your computer!

I made a few items with The Daily Grind Collection Vol. 1 including my first digital layout!

I had a lot of fun along with some tearing of the eyes (Lordy, those puppy paws get me every time!)playing with the elements, journaling cards, wood grain icons and even a little of the papers to create this layout.

After the digital layout I went back to making cards.  I really wanted to make some cards using some of the awesome stamps I have been receiving from Studio Calico in kits and otherwise.

For the first card I was inspired by one of Julie Campbell's cards she made for Two Peas in a Bucket using a pocket by Studio Calico.

Using the Cuppa card kit I chose a pretty soft apricot to pair with the deep wood grain, vanilla and pewter grey.

Next I really wanted to pair our new collection with Christmas products.  I chose to pick out the wood grain frame to work with the Magical 6x6 paper pad and the cool Peppermint stamp designed by Kal Barteski.

Finally I went with the ombre chevron (really love!) as a base for stamps from Studio Calico.

Fear of Scrapbooking

Dear Readers,

I admit it: I have a fear of scrapbooking.  I love seeing others' layouts and have had the desire to scrapbook (and doing many things to motivate me to scrapbook), but I find a 12 x 12 canvas, using photos and chronicling my life very intimidating.  I wonder if I am alone?

In the last few of months I have done a whopping 3 layouts which is amazing considering this year was the end of a decade of not scrapping at all.

I have an ambivalent relationship with cameras.  As someone who abhors having their picture taken (this is actually a family thing as there will often be at least one person running and hiding when a camera is pulled out.  Personally, I like to dodge behind big objects or put myself behind taller people), they can make me nervous. Even being behind the camera is sort of uncomfortable as I feel I am consorting with the enemy and I usually limit what I photograph to dogs, things and places rather than people relating to my life.  On the other hand, give me odd pictures or discards which only touch my life peripherally or not at all and I am endlessly intrigued.

I made this layout about photos belonging to my grandparents and the story of how I obtained them and the questions arising from them was the story I chose to tell. Why do my grandparents have pictures of a "toga"/dress up party from the 1970's?  Who knew. The pictures are amusing and cool.

To make scrapbooking easier for a novice like myself, I used a defined color combination (aqua, coral and yellow), Flight Plan Mission 002 and the Glee Club kit by Studio Calico and a lot of stamping using paper wings productions stamps including Day Framer, Flourish Fun 1 and Happy Day sets (I first blogged about this layout HERE).   By limiting my choices, it took away some of the anxiety.

Truth be told I had fun making this layout.

Do you enjoy scrapbooking?  What inspires you?  How have you honed your skills?

Thank you for taking time out of your busy lives!

Shay.

Introducing Framers Part II

Dear Reader,

Today I bring you some more examples of the uses of the Framer stamp sets now available for pre-order (and on sale for a limited time) at Paper Wings Productions.

We focus on the Details and Life Framer stamp sets.

Details Framer

I decided to do a journaling card showing how the frame in the Details Framer set framing a photo easily fits on a Project Life journaling card with plenty of space for some journaling along with embellishments.  In the background is the clock from the Melange Women 2 set from Paper Wings Productions

Life Framer

Here you see the frame from the Life Framer set paper pieced.  It is a great way to add interest or tie the frame into whatever project you are working on.  The woman framed is from the Melange 3 set from Paper Wings Productions.  I also wanted to show you how the frame looks on the ATC without being attached to a tag:

Thinking outside the frame:

Here I decided to use the 4 frame images in the Day, Details, Life & Snapshot Framer sets to create a background/patterned paper for a scrapbook layout (this would also work great on a card, tag, mini album, multi media project or an art journaling page).  Please don't snicker at my laughable attempt at scrapbooking please...or at least not too loudly.  I thought it would be good to show how the Framer sets really work well for documenting for life.

Lastly, today I wanted to show you how you could use the frame from the Details Framer set to create a tab on your project:

I used the lovely Happy Days and Let's Eat Cake stamp sets from Paper Wings Productions to create this card in addition to the frame from Details Framer.

I hope this has helped to illustrate what the Framer stamp sets can help you make.  I plan on exploring the Framer sets more and sharing those discoveries with you.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or comments you have.  I would *love* to see anything you create with them.  Feel free to email me or comment here with a link.

Happy creating,
Shay.
